Hello Seattle!

Two days ago was remembrance day. Other than remembering the soldiers that died in all those wars, it’s a public holiday in Canada so it meant getting drunk… with respect.

But before that, on the weekend I went to Seattle! Our day started very early on Saturday, at 5am to be exact. I woke up Jols who was sleeping in my room and she stumbled out of my room and I stumbled out of my room and wondered why the hell I had to wake up when it was still black outside.

We bussed to the coach that was taking us to Seattle, and funnily enough, had Starbucks for breakfast (there are over 490 Starbucks in Seattle, including the first one ever). About an hour or so into the bus ride we arrived at the US border. We all unloaded out of the bus and waited in line to be cleared as not a terrorist. On the wall was a huge board with posters of “missing people”, most of which were children. LOVELY!

Anyway, so we all got through without much trouble, except for Julian… because he’s Indonesian and apparently a security risk.

After we got back onto the coach, our next stop was a huge outlet mall, in a very dodgy area. So we shopped, and avoided scary looking people, including a tall thin man with a cowboy hat who wouldn’t stop staring at Daffodil on the bus. We passed through this really dodgy looking Casino as well. Like in those episodes of Simpsons where they just build a Casino on sacred land, it was THAT kind of Casino, with creepy, almost lifeless people staring at the pokie screens. Completely different from the glitz and glam of Crown! SO ANDY AND PETER, be careful LOL.

On Sunday we just walked around Seattle. We had Starbucks for breakfast.. again. The best part of Seattle is the Public Market. It had so many interesting handmade arts and crafts type of things and men throwing large fish around the market (you have to witness it to understand). Other than that, Seattle is a little dull, and definitely not as pretty as Vancouver or Melbourne.

So that brings me to this week, which involved getting drunk on Tuesday night and again on Wednesday at the Pit. This is a long post so I’m gonna end it here. Bisous!

Eleven things for twelve people who may never read them; inspired by Megan.

1. I miss you. I’m glad we’ve become such good friends over the last year or so.
2. I am going to miss you. Probably more than anyone else, I’m not sure. But thank-you for the time. I hope you enjoyed it just as much as I have.
3. You are so special and so beautiful, inside and out. Don’t let anyone make you feel crap like that again.
4. I’m sorry if I haven’t really been there for you lately. I love you and I’m so glad that you’re getting better.
5. You worry me. I feel like your happy and exuberant exterior hides something more sinister underneath it, be it sadness or something else. I will always be here for you.
6. I’m glad that you are experiencing what you are. I’m glad we spoke to you and became friends because you’re just too adorable.
7. I hope you learn how to be happy, or what makes you happy. You deserve it, and I think you just need to believe that you can be. I know you will be.
8. I love you. Only you and for always. So please try to remember that.
9. You have a lot to learn, and I don’t think you know this. I hope you remember that friends are important always, and not only sometimes. Because you’re important to me.
10. OK so I’m cheating here because this one is directed at two people. I love that you talk to me about your problems and that we can share late night ice-creams. It makes me smile and I hope we continue it when I get back.
11. You are why I miss home so much. I miss laughing crazily with you about everything, and just… you!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

This weekend was my first proper Halloween! And although we didn’t do any of the traditions of trick or treating, or carving pumpkins or even eating lots of candy, I experienced some new traditions.

So in the traditional point form style that I have become so accustomed to, this halloween week and weekend:

  • I went completely loopy for a day
  • my loopy-ness rubbed off on other people, with the product being four of us doing a rain dance, while it was drizzling
  • we played frisbee in the mud and rain, and I attempted to catch a frisbee while being piggybacked by Pav, and unfortunately failed
  • I dressed up as a zombie with Jols and Kathy
  • we saw people dressed up as a condom, bacon and egg, hotdog, bananas in pajamas, pac-man and the ghosts and countless other things I simply cant remember
  • we went to ‘Fright Night’ at an amusement park (kind of like Luna Park in St Kilda) but bigger and with better rides
  • we sang the Spongebob theme song on one of the rides really loudly, because someone was dressed up as Spongebob, while everyone stared at us like we were retards. Too funny.
  • I went on so many rides that I would usually be too chicken shit to go on, and I loved them, including one that shoots you up straight up into the air, and one that spins you upside down
  • we listened to a silly girl argue about organic food with this random guy on the bus; he interjected on her conversation about organic food with an argument about how it sucks, to which she replied “well what’s your ulterior solution”. LOL ulterior. That’s almost as good as “I dwelved into it”.
  • I had a really really nice day with Alex :)
  • I had another royal tea latte (so good!)
  • And finally, and most importantly, I reached a turning point where I realised that although I love it here and don’t want to leave anyone here, I think I’m ready to go home, or at least I’ll be okay to go home… mostly because I miss a lot of people (and a certain cat)

I have to blog about this before i forget, and to be honest i think i’m still a little drunk from last night so sorry if this is not coherent or clear.

This weekend was SO MUCH FUN. There are so many funny stories that amassed in the space of two days and I will try and rehash them out now, mostly to serve as some sort of time capsule for me.

So this weekend:

  • I went shopping until my heart’s content
  • I watched the Hangover
  • we met some nice people at Totem
  • we played King’s cup on both Friday and Saturday night
  • a lot of us ended up in our underwear because of it
  • I walked home in the rain while drunk
  • Julian and Matt chucked in our bathroom
  • I didnt.
  • Matt passed out in the bathroom
  • Matt passed out in our hallway
  • Julian passed out in my room
  • Matt came knocking on my door at 3am all cold and half naked because Alex had passed out in her room and had locked him out of there
  • Jols dared Kathy to ….
  • I couldn’t stop laughing or talking
  • Alex woke up still drunk
  • I woke up still drunk
  • we had a shitload of fun.

Dear Z:

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Yesterday was my criminology mid-term that was super boring. But straight after that we watched a documentary called “Damage Done: The Drug War Odyssey” that was quite interesting. So pretty much it talks about the idea of legalising drugs. All drugs. So not just marijuana, but more hardcore ones too.

For me, personally, drugs are one of the big no-no’s of my life, and so the idea of legalising them (with the connontations of thus accepting them as a normal part of society) was a bit of a stretch for me. It’s not like after watching the documentary I’m now an avid supporter of drugs and for the legalisation of them, but I guess I am now more informed about why they possible should be legalised. I guess I’m also warming to the idea of taking the drugs out of the hands of the drug barons and gangs and into the hands of the government or corporations… and then taxing the hell out of them.

Anyway, that’s just something interesting to think about.

On another note, last night I also went to the Pit, which is pretty much a bar with a dancefloor. Wednesday nights at UBC is “Pit night” so a few of us went and it was loooooots of fun. LOTS of fun. But OH MY GOODNESS.. the girls there couldn’t dance. Actually the boys were pretty terrible too, but it was funny watching them. Especially this one girl that was gyrating anything that moved. Oh and the 27 year old that would leave Jols alone and thought I looked strikingly similar to his ex-girlfriend. That was fun too haha.
